Description
The " Alaska Hotel " was situated in Dawson Creek, on 10th Street just 50 paces from the Mile ' 0 ' sign.
This historic hotel in the northern B.C. community of Dawson Creek has been destroyed by fire, on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 5 p.m. evening.
'' It is hard to imagine that after years of being Dawson Creek's most iconic structure, the Alaska Hotel could be destroyed in a matter of hours. While what remains of the building is a heap of charred rubble and ash, it is the stories and memories of its dwellers and denizens that now keep the 80-year-old building alive '', wrote Brock Campbell days later on the 24th September at Alaska Highway News.
"There's nothing that I can do to bring it back and I have to believe and be satisfied that I had the pleasure putting in forty years 55 paces south of the Mile Zero Post," said Kux-Kardos, owner of the Alaska Hotel.

Juergen, when my neighbor's son was just out of cegep, he left Montreal and moved to Alaska, he didn't go with a job,or to relatives, he just went. That was more than 15 years ago, he got married there, is raising a family, started his own business, and didn't even return last year for his sisters wedding. The man is simply hooked on the place. My neighbor has never even shown me a single photo of where he is in Alaska, she prefers to spend her time sitting on the porch, outdoor tv. blasting and watching Judge Judy. Perhaps this aptly explains why her son failed to return last summer. Your magnificent photos have placed me right there in Alaska, love the place, the vastness, the clarity, the air seems so fresh and still. This hotel is terrific. looks like it could be used in a movie set. I will return to your gallery soon, to travel with you to these great places.....CAROLE

Dear Carol, thank you so much for your kind comment ! I appreciate it ! To Alaska ... its really one of the most beautiful travel-destiations ... In 2004 I went to Yukon and Alaska for around four months ... As I planed I flew back to Germany and I came back only 6 weeks later, a couple of days before Christmas ... Alaska is like a drug: you don't get rid of it easily ! Thank you again, Carol - merci beaucoup ! You're welcome any time ! All the Best, Juergen
